Ricketts Glen Day 2 Falls Trail

Carlos

On day 2 we decided to go fishing out on Lake Jean. I left my camera and iPhone in my car. It was our first time on a boat and I did not want to risk dropping something in the water. I did take some pics with a samsung rugby II I had taken along. I did not mind if that fell in the lake. I need to download the samsung software to get the pics off. Here are some pics of the waterfalls we saw on our hike. The rain stayed away so we decided to do the Falls Trail after lunch. Oh yeah, we did not catch anything…

Ricketts Glenn Day 2 Lake Jean

Carlos
Ricketts Glenn Day 2 Lake Jean

These are the pics I took with the Rugby II. It is a decent phone. My mother-in-law still has the first Samsung we got free when I first switched over to AT&T. It is not a ruggedized phone, but it is similar to the Rugby. Here are the pics. Me and Roman took turns rowing. Not really, I just told him to row so I could take a pic. It was nice just being on the lake. I could have laid down in the boat and taken a nap. Roman was the only one fishing. I did not feel like getting a fishing license for a few hours that I was going to fish. Do you really need a license if you do catch and release. I really do not like doing catch and release, but I did not have stuff to clean fish. Or prepare it to eat so I intentionally did not try to catch anything. I did buy some night crawlers so Roman can see how to bait a hook. I did not make him do it, but I guess I should have. It was fun, but with the wind, it was hard getting back to the dock. I got a workout!

Ricketts Glen State Park

Carlos

I had no service what so ever at the campground so I am posting this later. This was the first day we got to Ricketts Glenn State Park. The drive was not to bad, but once you pass Wilkes-Barre it is just 2 lane roads. And they get a little winding…

I was thinking of posting this to our family blog, but since it was just me and Roman I will post it here. I really need to update http://www.lafamiliamedina.com/wordp!

It was raining off and on all the way up there. As soon as we got there we set up out tent right away and jumped in while it rained a little. We explored a little, but just called a night. The campsites were nice, but small. They were also a bit close together. Ours was right across from the facilities which was both good and bad.

Stay tuned for day 2…

My free iphone 4 case is here

Carlos

I opted for the clear Belkin case instead of the bumper. I just did not want to cover up the stainless steel rim. It actually looks pretty good with it on. It just so happened that my original phone fried itself sitting in my pocket so I put the case on this new pristine iPhone. I had actually gotten a couple of scratches on the back of the phone. You could barely notice them, but I knew they were there. Now I just need to get one of those clear screen protectors. I was thinking of just shrink wrapping the whole damn thing and being done with it.

I am actually writing this while I am on our 2nd annual Medina boys camping trip. We are in Ricketts Glenn state park. The facilities are nice, but absolutely no cell service in the park. Even the Verizon droidX gets nothing. I had to drive a few miles down the mountain to make a call. Stay tuned for that post. Can’t wait to get out tomorrow to take some shots of the waterfalls.

Could you take this all day!?

Carlos

I took some video of the construction they are doing right next to our building. I took one with my iphone 4 and one with my DroidX. As you can tell the DroidX did not know I was taking it in portrait mode. The DroidX takes video upto 720p and you can select lower resolutions. The iPhone4 has no settings adjustment for video but youtube says it is 1080p. Both were taken at approx the same time of day and from the same distance and angle to the construction.

The video above is from the DroidX and the one below is from iPhone 4

After review, the iPhone4 will upload your 1080p video as 360p video if you upload it from the phone. The DroidX uploaded the full resolution video from the phone. I had to copy the iPhone4 video to my PC to upload in HD.

I had more sky in the DroidX video and that is why the sky is bluer. The iPhone4 had more ground in it so it adjust to make the ground be exposed correctly instead of the sky. Notice in the DroidX video, the ground looks darker.

My next post will be comparing the photos from the DroidX and the iPhone4. I have been trying to take photoes of the same things with both phones, but sometimes I do not carry both phones.

Attention All Bikers in Philly, NJ, Area!!!

Carlos
Attention All Bikers in Philly, NJ, Area!!!

I wanted to post this on behalf of a friend of mine, Greg Scian. Even though I have not mounted a bicycle in a very long time, I still remember when I used to ride. I never rode in any organized fashion, but I would just get on my bike and ride wherever I wanted. It was my first real taste of freedom. Most people would say that when they got their first car, that was when they thought they were free to go where they wanted. Not me, when I jumped on my bike and headed out in the morning. I would not return until the sun was going down. Enough of my sappy childhood memories, this is a good cause and if you are a rider then check out the website. It is a good cause and you will be helping out in more ways than you think. I will be there snapping some photos. That is my gift and what I like to share.

The following is the email Greg sent out.

The 3rd Annual End Duchenne Bike Tour is less than two months away. Why do we Ride? Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common lethal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood. There is no cure at this time and boys with this disorder usually die in their early twenties. While all the funds go to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy to fund research grants, the ride is held in honor of my friend’s (Suzanne and Mike Gaglianone – Kingsway HS graduate) son, Michael, who has Duchenne.

The ride begins and ends in Woolwich Twp ( Stratton School) on Sunday September 19th at 8AM. It offers 2 scenic routes of 25 and 53 miles. Rest stops are available during the ride (it’s not a race) offering food and drinks. There will also be lunch at the end of the ride. In addition to cue sheets, the roads will be marked with lawn signs and likely markings on the pavement. There will also be a service vehicle on hand to assist in the event of flat tires. Registration is $25.

To register, visit our web site at www.parentprojectmd.org/biketour.
If you would like to make a donation, please click here. No donation is too small.
If you know anyone who enjoys riding and may be interested, can you please forward on our message?

Thank you for your consideration.

The Scian and Gaglianone Families.

Remember check out the website and if you have any questions you can always ask me, but I will just refer you to Greg.

Fire in Bridgeport

Carlos
Fire in Bridgeport

As we were driving home from the Farewell luncheon for Msgr Conway we saw some black smoke in the distance. I thought the fire was in King of Prussia. It turns out the fire was in Bridgeport. Right on the Schuykill River.

Isnt that a bit ironic that your business burns and you are just a few feet away from a river. I could not get a good view from the river side so I am not sure if they had a fireboat out there or not. I drove around a bit trying to get a good vantage point, but with all the trees, I could not really find a spot.

Here is a shot from my car as I drove by on 23, but they had closed the road and I had to turn back towards KOP. http://twitpic.com/24gouz

My first stop was in the neighborhood in upper Bridgeport. The area that is high in relation to the rest of Bridgeport which is at a lower elevation.

From Bridgeport neighborhood

My second stop was on the bridge over the Schuykill on 202. I could not really see that fire, just the smoke and the water canons on top of the ladders. Parking is tough to find in Bridgeport…!

You know the bridge they named Bridgeport after...

This is the bridge where I was in the previous shot…
Where I took the second shot from

I jumped back in my car and drive over the other bridge into Norristown. I went to the top of the Septa parking garage. I still could not see much as you can tell from the pic.

I did get to see Herbie! When did you volunteer for the fire company! hehe! I thought that was cool.

When I got close to the fire they already had it pretty much under control. Even the news channels were there already. I saw a few people interview folks.

Pro-Am @ the AT&T National

Carlos
Pro-Am @ the AT&T National

I took the day off for my Birthday and I ended up getting some tickets to the AT&T National Golf Tournament. I must be honest, I had not kept up with the news and I was not sure that “he” would be there. I hope that if I blog about Tiger Woods, then my blog does not get all spammed by Russian porn spammers! I think it already does, but I only have to delete a few spam post every once in a while.

Back to the tourney. You can find more info about it at their main website.

I think golf tournaments are great and I enjoy going to them and I used to volunteer at the Texas Open before I moved to PA. The AT&T National in particular has some good charities it supports. Plus it add the additional element of supporting our troops. Of course, the AT&T National marks the return of professional golf back to the Philadelphia area… That is one of the tag lines of the tournament’s PR.

At the entrance to the tournament they have this large area where you can hang out and eat. Of course they have merchandise tent where you can buy anything Tiger! We did not explore too much of the course. It does have some elevation changes. If I ever played there, I would not walk the course.

Jeannette wishes this was her car. I am not sure if I had the money, if I would buy this car. I would definitely buy a convertible sports car, but a Mercedes? It is a beautiful car, but is it worth it?

This is along the side of the 18th hole. I do not even know what Tiger shot, but the last few holes he did pretty good. There was a large number of people following him. Why not?

So here is one of shots of Tiger. He was waiting for the rest of the foursome to tee off. The other guys did not do so bad. I do not think I saw anyone go in the water. I am sure I would have dropped one in the water hazard. If I did, I would have pulled a Tin Cup and hit all my balls in the water!

I am not sure if they did this at all the holes, but on 17 the caddys or whomever was wearing the brown smocks got to pose with him. Remember there are several other professional golfers playing in this Pro-Am. Today’s afternoon news was all about Tiger. Well, he did sink a 50ft putt!

We saw a few other golfers while we were there. Y. E. Yang hit a nice tee shot on 17th.

We also saw Dustin Johnson at 17th before we saw “El Tigre” All in all, it was a fun time. I wish we could have stayed all day, but we went to go see the A-Team afterwards. The panoramic I did was of the 18th fairway. You can see the tee box to the right and the green is to the left. It did not come out as good as I wanted, but I am just using Microsoft’s ICE.

Let’s see how Tiger does. According to the news he did not do so well today, but the tournament has just started.

A Beer Can

Carlos

I was drinking this beer and decided to take some pics with the new iPhone. I started write a post up with some other pics I took, but somehow it got deleted! I thought I posted it, but it is not on my blog. Oh well, this pic looks awesome. I love how close you can get with the new iPhone. I like how the light falls on the can and you can even see the condensation on the can. Let me know what you think. Oh yeah and the beer was yummy. I do not normally drink bud light, but this is my favorite lime beer!
